waterville wind farm

effie: you are in the know! I need your assistance. A recent letter in the Daily News (2/28/07) refers to a wind farm (proposed) in Waterville, NY --about 16 miles south of Utica. I am not finding any reference to it on the net. Do you know anything about it? Ms. Sharp is referring to the financial aspect of the proposed farm--is there one? I am trying to check her facts.

I appreciate your confidence; but I'm not sure on that one. Anne might be better suited to action, or contact the town/village directly. They are under obligation to tell you squarely if such a project is proposed.

As far as financial impact is concerned, there is some cost gain for the landowners and the town, but generally no spread beyond that. While supervisors generate lots of noise on how this could reduce property taxes, we don't see it happening anywhere. It may be true that taxes don't go up after an install, but that's harder to track.

The vast majority of the profits go outside the area. Here's an analysis I did earlier /tax_loopholes_and_financial_effects

Hope it helps.
