We live in the small town of Roseboom NY-a few miles from Cherry Valley. Many citizens in Cherry Valley are courageously fighting the efforts of Reunion Power to erect a 24-wind turbine project. Rumors are now reaching us that another wind developer is courting landowners on the other side of the ridge behind our house in the even smaller town of South Valley. I am frustrated because I can find no information to confirm or reject the rumors-how does one find out? I keep being told that the wind developers sign non-disclosure agreements with locals and there is no public record of it. Any thoughts? Thanks

There doesn't have to be a public record of the companies talking to landowners. Unfortunately, that's how many get so far in their plans without public notice. I can't think of any way to force the issue into the open. Without public redress, your best hope is that one of the landowners tattles or to start talking to the town now about proper zoning.

The second answer may have more effect -- around here, some towns are implementing zoning just because neighboring towns have been approached and they want to get ahead of the game.

As Effie notes, at some point they need to obtain permits. Usually the town board operates in a manner that represent the town's populations - not just a very vocal minority. Most towns would have public hearings too.

Hillary Clinton's new ad campaign

Last night I saw Hillary Clinton's recent ad campaign and was horrified to see it features wind factories.

I hope some of you will write to her and express your disapproval. She needs to be aware of how many New Yorkers oppose these.

I heard that as few as 8 letters to a senator or member of congress will make them take notice.

Thanks
