T. Boone Pickings points to wind as key element to reducing USA oil dependence

Here's an interesting article about T. Boone Picking's plan to reduce America's oil dependence.

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Story?id=5330139&page=1

Comments are invited, but I suspect as I mentioned in my previous posting that the recent runup in energy costs pretty much put a dagger in the heart of the anti-wind's movements central argument that wind is not financially feasible. I'd be interested in hearing a counterview if any exists.

Time to admit WOW was short sighted? Why has Anne Britton gone radio silient?

I'm just more than a bit curious what Effie, Anne, and other anti wind content contributors of this site have to say about the high price of oil, electricity rates and natural gas in context of the old argument that wind energy wasn't cost effective. I think the price of energy has at least doubled since this site went up. All of a sudden, these wind farms are started to look like a pretty good investment.

Time to reap the benefits - Clinton wind park is fully operational

Here's an interesting article in the plattsburgh republican.
http://www.pressrepublican.com/archivesearch/local_story_138224546.html

BTW - in case anyone is interested. My own observations are that these turbines are extremely quiet. A fanstastic engineering feat.

Noble IPO

Here is a chance for even the NIMBY activists to join into the green revolution. Apparently NOBLE is going to spin off from J.P. Morgan with a public offering. It would be a chance to support the environment and to possibly profit as the local communities have with this clean alternative energy source.

More local benefits from the wind energy

Amazing isn't it? All the early hype about towns not getting any tax benefit seems to have evaporated as the benefits keep pouring in. Here is another recent article about school budgets increasing and taxes decreasing. Wonderful story isn't it?

Who's behind it?

North Texas Wind Resistance Alliance
Promoting the Truth about Wind Energy

Who's behind it?

Powerful corporate and financial interests

When you understand that wind energy does not work on a "utility-scale", the next questions are "Why are they doing it?" and ultimately "Who is behind it?"

Simply put, it's a corporate tax-avoidance scam, put in place by investment banking lobbyists, energy industry lobbyists, and the late Ken Lay and his Enron Wind subsidiary. Through manipulation in Congress and state legislatures, they have created a guaranteed high-return investment program, heavily subsidized by taxpayers and utility ratepayers, to benefit themselves at the expense of the public. They then market this scheme to the victimized public and gullible politicians as an environmentally-friendly "renewable energy" program, and have the "big" environmental groups that they support and sustain join in a chorus of approval.

Impact of Article X siting on NYS Local Governments in Rural Counties - Senator George H. Winner, Jr

January 31, 2008

Dear Local Government Official:

As you may know, two bills have been introduced in the state Legislature that would re-authorize Article X of the Public Service Law which is designed to streamline the siting review and approval process for major electric generating facilities. (A brief summary of the proposed provisions is shown on Page 2). Wind farm projects that meet certain thresholds established for power plants are included in these proposals, with the process governed by a statewide siting board.

A Scottish mycologist I've called on the UK Government to declare a moratorium on all land-based wind farm development until a newly identified, potentially devastating threat turbines pose to the environment has been properly examined - letter to the Prime Minister and supporting information below. This action has been reported in the UK media and the issue is attracting growing interest amongst academics, anti-wind farm lobby groups and others in the UK

Township of Clayton and Orleans Turns Public Comments over to Energy Company

Residents of the townships of Clayton and Orleans sat in bewilderment at a recent planning board meeting and watched as the public comments to the DGEIS for Horse Creek Wind Farm were turned over to PPM Energy's hired research firm for review. What a slap in the face. The comments were in a huge binder and Ms Enders of EDR, firm hired by PPM Energy, explained to the planning board how she would analyse these responses. There was NO opportunity for public comment at this meeting. I will have to say that the planning board chairman did make a copy of the comments for each member. Ms Enders told him he did not have to.
